Some friends asked where I took sewing classes.
I don’t know if you’d noticed… Felix and I love free stuff. (aka we are cheap) We don’t have a lot to spend either.
It was my friend who walked me through the first skirt I made.
And I began learning on my own with a sewing book I borrowed from the library.
People online recommended several sewing books for self-learners. I was planning to get them but then I was worried they might not be worth the money… I thought I would check the library first and Ta da!! The library did have them. The best one among them was Tilly Walnes’s Love At First Stitch. It has clear instructions with photographs. The projects are very cute too! She teaches you a new skill with every project. The best part is that it comes with patterns.
These are the first two projects I finished with the book. I learned to insert invisible zippers, make waistband, gather…
I love how this book makes sewing so fun and “doable!”
I feel like I really am making progress now that I look back at what I did.
Some other garments I made:
I think learning is all about “doing.” You have to do it in order to “make a skill your own.”
YouTube and Google are my best friends if I don’t know how to do something.
Keep learning and becoming better every day.
My skills are still not the best, but I know I will become better if I keep trying.
Let’s keep trying!
